SYCHEM through its subsidiary BIOENERGY CRETE S.A. was honored with the award for the «Best Circular City Biogas plant» and the distinction for the «Best Biogas Plant below 1MW» in the AD and Biogas Industry Awards 2019.
The annual AD and Biogas Industry Awards competition is organized by the ADBA and WBA (World Biogas Association) in Birmingham on 3rd July as part of UK AD & World Biogas Expo 2019.
The prestigious ceremony is the top event of the international biogas industry and this year there was a truly global shortlist of more than 60 companies and 9 well recognized judges. TBK, was the only participant from Greece, applied in two out of the 12 categories and was awarded in both of them.
The awards were received from the CEO of SYCHEM, Dr.-Ing Alexandros Yfantis.
TBK is the owner and operator of a Biogas Power Plant with installed power of 1 MW, located at the Industrial Area of Heraklion, Crete – Greece. The plant started its commercial operation in January 2017 at 500 kWel and expanded in July 2018 up to 1 MW kWel.
The Biogas Plant was entirely designed and constructed by SYCHEM Group, applying cutting-edge technologies at the most critical points of production process such as the collection and management of the incoming organic waste, the deodorization system, the pasteurization process, the reuse of produced heat energy and the innovative system for the biological treatment of the digestate effluent.
The plant is considered a prototype for the energy use of all kind of municipal organic waste as well as for animal byproducts. The plant is not using any kind of energy crops.
